Revival Works Underway at Rashid National Museum in Beheira
The museum documents Rashid's resistance to the 1807 Fraser campaign and houses Islamic artefacts and craft displays.
Restoration and revitalisation works are underway at the Rashid National Museum in Beheira Governorate as part of broader efforts to preserve Egypt's historical and heritage sites.
According to the Cabinet, the project forms part of a nationwide plan to revive archaeological and cultural landmarks while improving the surrounding urban environment and increasing tourist flows to destinations across the country.
Located inside the historic Arab Kili House, the museum documents the people of Rashid's victory over the British-led Fraser campaign in 1807.
The residence, one of the city's most prominent historic buildings, was constructed in the first half of the 12th Hijri century and is named after Hussein Arab Kili, who served as governor of Rashid between 1844 and 1849.
The museum contains artefacts and models illustrating local resistance to French and British occupations, alongside exhibits depicting daily life and traditional crafts in Rashid.
Its collection also includes a replica of the Rosetta Stone, historical weapons dating to the 18th and 19th centuries, and Islamic artefacts uncovered in the city, including coins and pottery vessels.
According to Hisham El Leithy, Secretary-General of the Supreme Council of Antiquities, current works include the restoration of facades, storeys and architectural elements to preserve the site's historical and cultural significance for future generations.
Authorities have said similar projects are being implemented across several governorates as part of efforts to safeguard cultural identity and make greater use of Egypt's heritage assets.
