Egypt Named Guest of Honour at 2027 French Book Fair

Egypt has been selected as the Guest of Honour at the 2027 French Book Fair, following cultural talks held in Paris between Minister of Culture Jehan Zaki and French Culture Minister Catherine Pégard.

The designation will place Egypt at the centre of the fair's cultural programme and is expected to include a national pavilion alongside a series of literary and artistic events showcasing Egyptian culture.

The discussions in Paris also resulted in a broader framework for cultural cooperation between the two countries. Plans were agreed to establish a partnership with France's National Centre for Cinema (CNC) aimed at preserving film archives and safeguarding cinematic heritage.

In parallel, coordination is underway with the National Library of France (BNF) to develop joint initiatives.

As part of the visit, Zaki held talks with the library's president, historian Gilles Pécout, to explore closer institutional cooperation. The two sides also discussed organising joint events honouring Dr Tharwat Okasha and André Malraux, two figures associated with the development of public culture in Egypt and France.

According to the Ministry of Culture, the initiatives form part of wider efforts to strengthen cultural exchange and academic cooperation between Cairo and Paris, with a focus on heritage preservation, research access and sustainable cultural industries.
