Five New Bus Factories Will Build 2,000 Electric Buses Locally

A new manufacturing programme led by the Ministry of Transport is underway to localise bus production in Egypt, with five factories now producing vehicles and components for public transport and related sectors.

The initiative includes the production of 2,000 fully electric buses, including their batteries, alongside contracts signed by ministry-affiliated companies to supply 1,500 buses and minibuses. The participating manufacturers include MCV, El Gioshy, Al Nasr for Automotive, KASTOUR Egypt, and GB BUS.

Vehicles produced through these facilities are already operating within transport networks, including the bus rapid transit system, as well as fleets serving operators such as Akta and regional companies in East Delta, West and Middle Delta, and Upper Egypt.

Locally manufactured coaches are also being integrated into intercity transport, including single-deck and double-deck models used by Super Jet.

The localisation plan extends to minibus production, aimed at supporting urban mobility and connecting new cities with electric rail systems such as light rail transit and the East Nile monorail.

In the freight sector, trailer manufacturing is being carried out at the Abaza factory under contracts for Nile for Freight Transport.

Additional production lines include tractor heads and trailers, with a focus on increasing the share of locally produced components.
