Sensory Rooms Open at Dubai Bus Stations for Autism Support
The rooms use lighting, sound and interactive elements to reduce sensory stress during travel.
The Roads and Transport Authority has opened sensory rooms at bus stations in Dubai, designed to support travellers with autism and other conditions. The rooms are located at Al Satwa Bus Station and Oud Metha Bus Station, offering purpose-built environments that balance relaxation and stimulation based on individual needs.
According to the authority, the spaces incorporate smart low-level lighting and interactive features such as swings to support physical comfort. Audio-visual elements, including calming music, natural imagery and colour-based visuals, are also integrated to help reduce sensory stress.
The initiative forms part of broader efforts to enhance accessibility and improve the travel experience, using design and technology to support inclusive mobility.
The project has been recognised with the Autism-Friendly Environment Certificate from the Dubai Autism Center, reflecting compliance with the requirements of its Autism-Friendly Programme. Earlier in 2026, similar sensory rooms were introduced at Al Satwa and Oud Metha Metro stations, expanding the network of accessible transport facilities across the city.
