Egyptian Professor Elected President of UK Ophthalmology College

Egyptian professor Dr Mohamed El Alfy has been elected President of the Royal College of Ophthalmologists in the United Kingdom, becoming the first Egyptian to hold the position.

The role involves regulating the ophthalmology profession, developing training curricula and overseeing specialist examinations for ophthalmologists in the UK and internationally.

El Alfy is a graduate of the Faculty of Medicine at Ain Shams University and completed his training at the Research Institute of Ophthalmology before moving to the United Kingdom around 15 years ago. He also holds a joint PhD between Beni Suef University and partner institutions in the UK and Switzerland.

A cooperation agreement has also been signed with the Egyptian Armed Forces Medical Services to conduct the college’s fellowship examinations at Kobri El Qobba Military Hospital, creating a new pathway for training and certification within Egypt.
