Ramses & the Gold of the Pharaohs Opens in London on February 28th

The touring exhibition ‘Ramses & the Gold of the Pharaohs’ is set to open in London on February 28th, 2026, at Battersea Power Station, where it will run until August 30th.

Presented at Neon’s exhibition space, the London edition follows the conclusion of the exhibition’s Tokyo run and marks the latest stop in an international tour that began in 2021. The exhibition brings together 180 artefacts dating largely to the reign of Ramses II, drawn primarily from the Egyptian Museum in Tahrir.

Highlights include the sarcophagus of Ramses II from the National Museum of Egyptian Civilisation, as well as objects discovered by the Egyptian archaeological mission at the Bubasteion in Saqqara and selected pieces from other Egyptian museums. The collection features statues, jewellery, cosmetic tools, stelae, inscribed stone blocks and painted wooden coffins.

Together, the artefacts present a wide-ranging view of ancient Egyptian civilisation, spanning periods from the Middle Kingdom through to the Late Period. Since launching its global tour in 2021, ‘Ramses & the Gold of the Pharaohs’ has previously been shown in Houston, San Francisco, Paris, Sydney, Cologne and Tokyo, before arriving in the British capital for its London engagement.

Ahead of the opening, Dr Mohamed Ismail Khaled, Secretary-General of the Supreme Council of Antiquities, conducted an inspection of the venue to assess readiness for the exhibition.

The site visit included reviews of display halls, lighting systems, security infrastructure and artefact protection measures, alongside technical arrangements required for the safe installation of the collection.

The inspection also covered artefact transfer routes, secured storage areas used during pre-display staging, and surveillance, motion detection and fire safety systems. Meetings were held with organisers to finalise preparations for the official opening.
