UN Aviation Agency Middle East Office to Continue Operations in Cairo
Renewed agreement keeps ICAO’s Cairo office in place as a regional hub supporting aviation safety, efficiency, and policy across 15 states.
The Middle East regional office of the International Civil Aviation Organization will continue operating from Cairo following the renewal of its hosting agreement.
The office, one of seven regional hubs within ICAO’s global network, serves 15 member states across the Middle East. Its work centres on providing technical support, capacity building, and policy guidance to national aviation authorities.
Programmes delivered through the Cairo office focus on strengthening aviation safety standards, improving operational efficiency, and supporting measures to reduce the environmental impact of air transport.
The office also contributes to the implementation of international aviation frameworks across the region. Operating in Cairo since 1953, the regional office functions as a coordination point for ICAO’s activities in the Middle East.
Its remit includes supporting safety oversight systems, enhancing air navigation services, and advancing sector-wide performance standards.
The renewal ensures continuity for ongoing programmes and technical assistance, maintaining the office’s role in supporting civil aviation systems across member states while aligning regional operations with international standards.
