Album Spotlight: Omar Gangster - Ebn El Mansoura
The young Egyptian producer discusses the journey behind his album ‘Ebn El Mansoura’, marking his shift from producer to artist.
In his debut album ‘Ebn El Mansoura’, Egyptian producer Omar Gangster embarks on a journey to define his voice as more than just a beatmaker, but as an artist in his own right. Having spent years working behind the scenes with some of Egypt’s most prominent rappers, Omar now steps forward to present a cohesive body of work that reflects his personal identity and creative direction.
Throughout his career, Omar has collaborated with influential figures in the region’s rap scene, producing tracks for the likes of Ziad Zaza and Aresnik. However, the constraints of working with other artists often meant compromising his unique sonic vision. With ‘Ebn El Mansoura’, Omar gains the freedom to fully explore and refine his sound, blending intricate drum patterns with experimental layers of beats that he previously held back.
The album features major names from Egypt’s hip-hop and alternative scenes, including Abyusif, Abo El Anwar and Hala Sherif to name a few, with each collaboration bringing a different energy, highlighting Omar’s ability to seamlessly adapt his production style while maintaining a distinct identity.
The album’s title, ‘Ebn El Mansoura’, is a reflection of Omar’s roots. While he was often mistaken for being from Cairo, his upbringing in Mansoura holds deep significance in shaping his musical character. This project offers a personal glimpse into his journey from a young, overlooked producer to an emerging name in the industry, confidently shaping the narrative of his own artistic vision.
