Egypt Targets 330 Million Cubic Feet Daily Increase in Gas Output

The Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources is targeting an increase of around 330 million cubic feet per day in domestic natural gas production before the end of 2026.

Around 250 million cubic feet per day are expected from the Zohr and West Mina fields in the Mediterranean, while another 80 million cubic feet per day are targeted from the Meleiha fields in the Western Desert before the end of September.

Petroleum and Mineral Resources Minister Karim Badawi said efforts to raise production are focused on developing existing fields, expanding exploration and accelerating the connection of new discoveries to the production network.

During the 2025/2026 financial year, the Egyptian Natural Gas Holding Company awarded four new exploration blocks in the Mediterranean and Nile Delta with investments approaching USD 200 million and signed five additional exploration agreements worth USD 240 million.

The company also reported nine new discoveries — eight gas and one oil — adding around 2.8 trillion cubic feet to gas reserves. Another 16 exploration opportunities have been identified, targeting estimated resources of around six trillion cubic feet.

Nine gas-field development projects were completed during the year, while 28 new wells were connected to the production network with investments of USD 1.12 billion.

Officials said increasing domestic production remains a priority for reducing gas imports and maintaining supplies to households, industry and the electricity sector during periods of peak demand.
