Drug Authority Warns Against Misleading Medical Ads Online
The latest enforcement list includes 19 cases involving unauthorised promotion of medicines and medical or cosmetic products.
The Egyptian Drug Authority has warned against misleading medical and cosmetic advertising online, publishing an updated list of cases involving content creators, accounts and advertising entities that promoted products without authorisation.
The latest list includes 19 cases. For each one, the authority records the product involved, the platform where it appeared, the advertisement date, a violation code and the current status of the case.
The authority said unauthorised promotion of medicines and other medical or cosmetic products can mislead consumers and encourage improper use, creating potential public-health risks. It added that some creators had shared promotional claims and material that had not been approved by the relevant authorities.
The warning comes as more medical and cosmetic products are marketed through social media, where creators can reach large audiences outside traditional advertising channels. The authority urged users to be cautious when relying on online content for information about medicines and related products, particularly when promotional claims have not been formally approved.
