Egypt Food Industry Exports Top USD 5 Billion January to August
The European Union saw the fastest regional growth at 16% to USD 1.124 billion, while Spain’s imports more than doubled and frozen strawberries led products at USD 617 million.
Egypt’s food industry exports rose 10.8% year on year to USD 5.128 billion in the first eight months of 2026, crossing USD 5 billion for the first time and marking the sector’s highest January-to-August total on record, according to the Food Export Council.
A total of 2,731 Egyptian companies exported food products to 179 markets during the period, with 110 markets increasing their imports.
Arab countries remained the largest destination, receiving USD 2.419 billion in exports, up 8.9% and accounting for around 47% of the total. The European Union ranked second at USD 1.124 billion, up 16%, while exports to the United States reached USD 334 million and shipments to non-Arab African markets rose to USD 356 million.
Saudi Arabia was the largest individual market at USD 423 million, followed by the United States at USD 334 million, Jordan at USD 228 million, Libya at USD 226 million and Sudan at USD 214 million.
Spain recorded the strongest growth among major markets, with imports of Egyptian food products rising 107% to around USD 208 million, driven largely by edible oils, animal feed and processed and pickled olives.
Frozen strawberries remained the top exported product at USD 617 million, followed by soft drink concentrates at USD 419 million and edible oils at USD 351 million. Chocolate exports nearly doubled, rising 98% to around USD 301 million.
The sector’s top 30 exported products generated USD 4.577 billion, representing around 89% of total food industry exports.
