Abu Dhabi Updates Fishing Rules With Temporary Badah Allowance
The move aims to support local supply and fishermen while maintaining oversight of marine resources.
The Environment Agency – Abu Dhabi has begun implementing updated fishing regulations, including a temporary allowance to fish and market Badah for the remainder of 2026. The changes come under two ministerial decisions issued in coordination with the Ministry of Climate Change and Environment, and follow recent data indicating improvements in fish stock levels.
Ministerial Resolution No. 74 cancels earlier rules that restricted the fishing and sale of certain species during breeding seasons, while Resolution No. 75 permits Badah fishing and marketing on an exceptional basis this year.
Officials said the measures are intended to support fishermen and increase fish availability in local markets, while maintaining oversight of marine resources. The agency added that the Badah allowance is temporary and will be reviewed based on ongoing scientific monitoring.
Authorities emphasised that the decision does not represent a permanent policy shift, noting that a similar temporary allowance was introduced in 2021. The agency will continue to monitor fishing activity and stock levels to determine future regulations.
Badah remains a key commercial species in the local market, with its management central to balancing supply needs and conservation priorities.
