Egypt's Visa Fees Are Now 44% Higher Than Five Months Ago

Egypt has hiked visa fees for visitors by 44% over the past five months — the second increase since March, when the visa-on-arrival price jumped from USD 25 to USD 30. Now, a new USD 6 issuance fee tied to the rollout of a digital QR-code visa (piloted at Cairo Airport starting August 1st) brings the total to USD 36 per entry, alongside a fresh EGP 100 departure fee that applies even to Egyptian nationals.

The timing tracks with Egypt's tourism boom: tourism revenues increased by 14.9 percent year-on-year to USD 14.4 billion during the first nine months of the 2025/26 fiscal year, and tourist arrivals rose by nearly 21%, reaching almost 15 million visitors during the first nine months of 2025. With foreign currency this valuable to the economy, and with Egypt targeting 30 million annual tourists by 2030, these fee hikes look less conditional and more like the new normal.
