5.6 Million Premarital Health Screenings Conducted in Egypt Since 2023

More than 5.59 million young men and women in Egypt have undergone premarital medical screening since the initiative launched in February 2023, according to the Ministry of Health and Population.

Operating under the presidential 100 Million Healthy Lives initiative, the programme provides medical examinations for people preparing to marry and issues official health certificates upon completion of the required tests. The ministry said 5,595,712 people had been screened between the programme's launch and mid-July 2026.

According to ministry spokesperson Dr Hossam Abdel Ghaffar, the health certificates are issued with a QR code to verify their authenticity and remain valid for six months from the date of issue. He added that couples intending to marry should complete the required medical tests at least 14 days before finalising marriage procedures to allow sufficient time to receive their results and obtain the certificate.

The ministry added that information about the premarital screening initiative and other public health programmes is available through its official platforms and the 100 Million Healthy Lives website. The initiative forms part of the ministry's broader efforts to expand preventive healthcare services and promote preventive healthcare across the country.
