Cairo Design Week 2026 Is Getting Three New Initiatives
Cairo Design Week adds three new initiatives exploring craft, mobility and regional design alongside its returning programme.
Now approaching its fourth edition, Cairo Design Week is beginning to look less like an annual event and more like an evolving map of the city’s creative landscape.
Running from November 19th to 28th across Downtown, Heliopolis and Zamalek, its 2026 programme pushes into new territory with three initiatives spanning Egyptian craft, mobility and regional design: YADD Community, inMotion and TheMENAEdit. They join returning platforms CDW Stage, Makerspace and Fashion Design District, widening the conversation around what design in Cairo encompasses, who participates in it and where it happens.
YADD Community is a new initiative by Creative Districts centred on craftsmanship and material culture. Named after the Arabic word for hand, the programme looks at the knowledge carried through making and how craft techniques continue to develop through contemporary design. Its first activation at Cairo Design Week, curated in collaboration with Shewekar, will bring together designers, artisans and local production communities working with stone, textiles, ceramics, glass, wood, metal and weaving.

Automotive design enters the programme through inMotion, another Creative Districts initiative presented in collaboration with PHOTON X. The inaugural edition will look at the design decisions behind mobility, including vehicle interiors, interfaces, materials, electric mobility, manufacturing and urban movement. Industrial and product designers, architects, technologists, students and industry professionals will take part in the programme.

TheMENAEdit brings 21 designers from across the region together through a collaboration between Creative Districts, Creative Dialogues and Design Point Studio. The designers will develop limited-edition objects informed by shared heritage and their individual perspectives. House of Artisans, part of the Department of Culture and Tourism, Abu Dhabi, will also join the programme with handcrafted pieces and stories connected to the UAE’s craft heritage.
The wider Creative Exchange programme will also connect Cairo Design Week with international design communities. Following Cairo Design Week founder Hisham Mahdy’s participation as Guest of Honor and Speaker at Moscow Design Week, its Head, Ekaterina Kiva, will attend the Cairo edition and join the programme as a speaker.

Alongside the new additions, CDW Stage, Makerspace and Fashion Design District will return. CDW Stage, presented in collaboration with Creative Industry Summit and DeForum, will host talks and panels covering design, culture, technology, cities and the creative economy. Makerspace, founded by Creative Districts with Studio 34, will present prototypes, material experiments and projects by students, emerging designers, brands and startups. Fashion Design District, founded with Maison Pyramide and Mai Galal, will return with a programme exploring fashion through artistic and cultural expression.

Further designers, speakers, institutions and creative entities will be announced as participation is confirmed, with more of the programme set to unfold in the weeks ahead. Registration is now open for designers, brands, institutions and other prospective participants through the Cairo Design Week website at www.cairodesignweek.net.
