Smart Crowd-Monitoring Systems Rolled Out at the Grand Mosque

Advanced smart technologies are being deployed at the Grand Mosque to strengthen crowd management and improve safety and flow for worshippers, according to the General Authority for the Care of the Grand Mosque and the Prophet’s Mosque.

The authority said intelligent counting systems are now operating across key areas of the mosque, using sensors and live data monitoring to track the number of worshippers entering and exiting entrances, corridors, floors and courtyards. The systems provide continuous, real-time readings of crowd density and movement patterns, giving operations teams an up-to-date view of inflows and outflows across the site.

Officials described the technology as a central pillar of crowd control operations. Live data enables faster and more precise decision-making on the ground, allowing teams to respond immediately to changes in crowd density and redistribute visitor flows as needed. By aligning movement with available capacity in different areas, the systems help reduce congestion while maintaining safety and comfort.

The smart solutions also support early detection of high-density zones. This allows for proactive intervention before bottlenecks develop, within an integrated operational framework that combines real-time monitoring with on-site field response. The approach is designed to maintain steady circulation through corridors, entrances and courtyards during busy periods.
