Saudi Arabia Condemns Iranian Attack on US Embassy in Riyadh

Saudi Arabia has strongly condemned what it described as a “flagrant Iranian attack” targeting the U.S. Embassy building in Riyadh early Tuesday, March 3rd, warning that the incident risks further escalating tensions in the region.

In an official statement, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said it expresses its “rejection and condemnation in the strongest terms of the flagrant Iranian attack that targeted the U.S. Embassy building in Riyadh.”

The statement stressed that the “repetition of this cowardly and unjustified attack blatantly violates all international norms and laws,” specifically citing the 1949 Geneva Convention and the 1961 Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations, which grant immunity to diplomatic premises and personnel “even in cases of armed conflict.”

The statement emphasised that the continued incidents come despite what it described as clear communication to Tehran. According to the statement, the Iranian authorities were aware that “the Kingdom has affirmed it will not allow its airspace or territory to be used to target Iran,” yet the attacks were repeated.

The Kingdom warned that such actions “will push the region toward further escalation” amid already heightened tensions.

The statement reiterated that Saudi Arabia retains “its full right to take all necessary measures to protect its security, territorial integrity, citizens, residents, and vital interests, including the option of responding to the aggression.”

The statement did not provide further details on the nature or extent of the reported attack.
