Second High-Speed Rail Line to Link Fayoum to Abu Simbel
The new 1,100 km rail corridor will connect Upper Egypt with key cities and tourism sites.
A second line of Egypt’s high-speed electric rail network is planned to run from the Fayoum and Beni Suef area to Abu Simbel along an approximately 1,100-kilometre corridor serving Upper Egypt.
The route, extending from October to Aswan and Abu Simbel, will include 36 stations, comprising 10 high-speed stations and 26 regional stops.
It will connect with the first line at Hadayek October and link to the third line at Qena, enabling through-journeys across the national network. Station locations have been positioned near Nile crossing points to improve connectivity between communities and facilitate movement across governorates.
The corridor is designed to serve emerging urban and industrial areas, including Helwan, 15th of May City, 6th of October City, New Minya and New Assiut.
It will also connect major tourism destinations such as Giza, Sohag, Luxor and Aswan, alongside coastal access to the Red Sea, supporting integrated travel across cultural, historical and coastal sites. In addition to passenger transport, the line is intended to support freight movement through logistics corridors linking production zones with seaports, dry ports and logistics centres, strengthening connections between the Red Sea and the Mediterranean.
The route also passes through agricultural development areas such as the New Delta, Mostakbal Misr, Ganna Misr, West Minya, Toshka and East Oweinat, facilitating the transport of agricultural goods to domestic markets and export hubs.
The second line forms part of a wider three-line national high-speed rail network aimed at improving connectivity across Egypt, reducing travel times and supporting urban growth, industry, tourism and agriculture.
