Greentea Peng is Breaking Through a World Wrapped In Cling Film
In an exclusive interview, Greentea Peng reflects on Cairo, motherhood, and her politically-charged new single 'Helicopters'.
Known for her hazy fusion of neo-soul, reggae, dub, and South London grit, UK artist Greentea Peng makes music that feels like an exhale at the end of a long day. From her 2021 breakout album Man Made to her most recent 2025 release Tell Dem It’s Sunny, her lyrics move between the political and the personal, searching for meaning and resolution through sound.
She speaks with the same texture her records hold: reflective and searching, as though every sentence has passed through weather before arriving. In this exclusive SceneNoise interview, she sat across from me in a greenhouse garden, submerged in an empty pool, as time somehow slowed. Only the Eid prayer bellowing in the background reminded us of the hour, and of Cairo’s rhythm waiting just beyond.
In this exclusive interview with SceneNoise, she reflects on supporting displaced Sudanese and Palestinian communities on the ground in Cairo through her work with non-profit Refugee Biriyani & Bananas, the emotional life of her recent single 'Helicopters' with Ezra Collective, and why music remains her way of transforming darkness into something healing.
