El Sisi Receives Slovenian President on First Official Visit to Egypt
President Nataša Pirc Musar is in Cairo for talks on bilateral ties, trade and regional issues.
President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi received Slovenian President Nataša Pirc Musar in Cairo on November 3rd, 2026, at the start of her first official visit to Egypt. The talks focused on strengthening bilateral relations and regional and international issues of mutual concern.
Pirc Musar is also scheduled to meet Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly and Arab League Secretary-General Nabil Fahmy, attend an Egyptian-Slovenian business meeting and deliver a lecture at Cairo University. Her programme also includes a meeting with Palestinian refugee women and children living in Egypt.
A Slovenian business delegation is accompanying the president, while the Port of Koper is due to hold a trade event during the visit focused on trade, transport and logistics links between the two countries. Slovenia has also highlighted the potential for Egypt to use Slovenian ports as a route into Central and Eastern European markets.
Economic cooperation has become a growing part of bilateral discussions, including trade, investment, labour mobility and direct air links. Egypt is Slovenia’s largest trading partner in Africa, with 2025 exports from Slovenia to Egypt reaching USD 93.8 million and Egyptian exports to Slovenia totalling USD 384.08 million.
The visit comes ahead of the 35th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries in April 2027. Slovenia’s embassy in Cairo was its first in Africa and remains its only embassy on the continent.
Pirc Musar became Slovenia’s first woman president in December 2022. Her visit follows former president Borut Pahor’s 2016 trip to Cairo, the first by a Slovenian president since the country gained independence in 1991.
