Egypt's Cabinet Announces Investigation Into Damietta Drone Attack
The statement marks the first official confirmation that the incident was caused by a drone, following Wednesday's fire aboard two ships at one of Egypt's key Mediterranean ports.
Egypt's Cabinet has confirmed that the fire which broke out aboard two vessels at Damietta Port on July 29th was caused by a drone, following preliminary investigations by the relevant authorities.
In an official statement, the Cabinet said that after the fire was brought under control, "preliminary investigations... determined that it was the result of a drone," adding that "no party has claimed responsibility for the incident."
Authorities are continuing their investigations to determine the full circumstances surrounding the attack. The Cabinet said the relevant bodies are also taking "the necessary measures to safeguard Egypt's interests and national security."
