Dina Mustafa Becomes First Saudi Woman to Win an Asian Games Medal

Saudi Arabia’s Dina Ahmed has become the first Saudi woman ever to win an Asian Games medal.

Competing in the women’s +68kg karate kumite event at Aichi-Nagoya 2026, Ahmed came from 3–0 down to beat Nepal’s Arika Gurung 8–7 in the bronze-medal bout. Gurung was the silver medallist from the 2022 Asian Games in Hangzhou.

Ahmed’s bronze opened up Saudi Arabia’s medal haul for the 2026 edition of the Games, with fellow karateka Saud Al-Bashir adding another bronze in the men’s 60kg kumite event after beating Nepal’s Min Bahadur Tamang 2–0.
