Arab States Condemn Houthi Missile Attack Targeting Riyadh

Arab states and regional organisations have condemned the latest Houthi attacks on Saudi Arabia after air defences intercepted a ballistic missile targeting Riyadh and other attempted strikes were reported across the Kingdom.

Kuwait condemned the targeting of population centres and described the attacks as a violation of Saudi sovereignty. Egypt said the attack breached international law and the principles of the United Nations Charter, while Bahrain condemned attacks on civilians and civilian infrastructure. Jordan said the incident threatened Saudi Arabia’s security and stability and constituted a violation of international law. Lebanon’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Emigrants also issued a condemnation.

Gulf Cooperation Council Secretary-General Jasem Mohamed Albudaiwi and United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres also condemned attacks on civilian sites and the threat posed to regional stability. The Muslim World League separately denounced the strikes.

The Saudi-led coalition said the ballistic missile targeting Riyadh was intercepted and destroyed in the air without causing damage. Civil defence alerts were issued in Riyadh and nearby Al Kharj before all-clear notices were later given.

The Houthis said they had launched ballistic and cruise missiles and drones at what they described as sensitive sites in Riyadh and energy facilities in Yanbu on the Red Sea coast.
