100 Youth to Join 1,000 km Camel Heritage Trek Across the UAE Desert
Organised by Emirates Foundation and Active Abu Dhabi, Misrah includes a 1,000-kilometre trek and a two-month training programme focused on navigation, camel care, and Emirati customs.

A new heritage initiative called Misrah will see 100 young citizens and residents embark on a 1,000-kilometre trek across the UAE, blending camel travel and foot navigation through desert, coastal, and mountainous terrain. The month-long journey is part of a broader effort to deepen cultural awareness and foster a stronger sense of national identity among participants.
Organised by the Emirates Foundation and Active Abu Dhabi in partnership with the Abu Dhabi Heritage Authority, the programme will begin with a two-month training camp running from August 19th to September 21st. Hosted at the Abu Dhabi Police Camel Camp, the training will prepare 500 shortlisted individuals aged 18 to 25 in essential desert survival skills, including camel care, navigation, and saddle assembly.
Cultural instruction will also be a core component of the programme, offering sessions on oral storytelling, traditional folk dances such as the Ayala, Al Harbiya, and Taghrooda, as well as coffee preparation and campfire customs.
Following the training period, 100 participants will be selected to undertake the final trek. Registration is currently open through the national volunteering platform.
