Tuktuks Are Now Officially Banned on Cairo's Main Roads

Tuk-tuks are now prohibited from operating on the capital’s main roads and squares, including the Nile Corniche, Salah Salem, the Autostrad, and El-Thawra Street, according to a statement by Cairo Governor Ibrahim Saber.  The decision aims to curb traffic violations and ease congestion across the city’s busiest routes.

Tuk-tuk drivers found violating the ban will have their vehicles temporarily impounded and face fines of up to EGP 3,000. The announcement follows a recent viral video showing a tuk-tuk driver assaulting a man, which reignited public debate over the vehicles’ regulation and safety in urban areas.
