Taxi Fleet in Makkah Set to Expand to Around 1,600 Vehicles
New licences issued to taxi operators are expected to nearly double Makkah’s fleet to around 1,600 vehicles with upgraded digital systems.
Makkah’s taxi fleet is set to expand after the General Transport Center received three new licences for companies operating taxi services in the city.
The licences were handed over by Saleh Al Jasser, Saudi Arabia’s Minister of Transport and Logistic Services, to Saleh bin Ibrahim Al Rasheed, chief executive of the Royal Commission for Makkah City and Holy Sites.
According to Al Rasheed, the new licences are expected to strengthen regulation of the city’s taxi sector while introducing an upgraded fleet equipped with digital systems, including vehicle tracking, interactive trip displays and instant translation features, alongside secure electronic payment options.
The expansion aims to nearly double the number of taxis operating in Makkah this year to around 1,600 vehicles.
