Sheikh Mohammed Tests Etihad Rail Route From Dubai to Fujairah

Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid shared images of a train journey from Dubai to Fujairah aboard the forthcoming Etihad Rail passenger service, offering a glimpse into the progress of a project expected to transform travel across the UAE. The national railway network, which will connect 11 cities and regions, is expected to be fully operational in 2026 and aims to transport up to 36 million passengers annually by 2030.

The passenger line was first announced in 2021, with planned stations in major cities including Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Sharjah, and Fujairah. Fujairah’s station is set to be located in the Sakamkam area, while the Sharjah station will be near the airport and University City. The Dubai station is expected to be near Jumeirah Golf Estates, though this has not been officially confirmed.

Trains on the line will travel at speeds of up to 200 kilometres per hour and accommodate up to 400 passengers. Journey times are projected at 57 minutes between Abu Dhabi and Dubai, and 105 minutes between Abu Dhabi and Fujairah. Officials were recently briefed on the project's milestones, as preparations continue for launch next year. A separate high-speed electrified passenger line between Abu Dhabi and Dubai is also under development.
