Saudi Arabia Expands Makkah Route Initiative to the Maldives
The Makkah Route Initiative simplifies the Hajj journey by completing key requirements at home before arriving at Saudi Arabia.

Saudi Arabia has officially launched the Makkah Route Initiative in the Maldives, marking the island nation as the eighth country to join the streamlined pilgrimage program following Indonesia, Malaysia, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Turkey, Morocco, and the Ivory Coast.
The Makkah Route Initiative simplifies and enhances the Hajj journey by allowing pilgrims to complete biometric data collection, visa issuance, health checks, and luggage sorting at home before arriving in Saudi Arabia.
The milestone was celebrated with a ceremony at Male’s Velana International Airport, where Maldives President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu inaugurated the route and personally handed passports to the first group of 234 Maldivian pilgrims departing under the initiative.
