Residents Urged to Remove Standing Water to Prevent Mosquito Spread
Authorities are urging residents to eliminate stagnant water after recent rainfall.
Residents across the UAE are being urged to eliminate stagnant water in and around their homes following recent rainfall, as part of efforts to reduce mosquito breeding and protect public health.
The Ministry of Climate Change and Environment said removing standing water is the most effective way to prevent mosquitoes from reproducing and spreading.
Guidance issued to residents includes emptying containers that collect water, cleaning areas where rainwater accumulates, maintaining drainage systems and disposing of waste properly. Regular trimming of grass and vegetation has also been recommended to reduce conditions favourable to mosquito activity.
Additional household measures include covering water tanks, removing unused containers and installing window screens or electric insect traps to limit mosquito entry indoors.
Authorities also highlighted the use of plant species known to repel mosquitoes and appropriate methods to control both larvae and adult insects.
Following the rainfall, national campaigns have been intensified to monitor and eliminate breeding sites. Measures include pesticide spraying, draining stagnant water, fogging operations and larval control programmes carried out in coordination with local authorities.
