Qalyubiya is Getting 14 New Metro Stations Connected to Metro Line 1
Plans outline a 19 km extension of Metro Line 1 to Shibin Al Qanater with 14 stations and a fully segregated route.
Plans are in place to extend Cairo’s Metro Line 1 from New El Marg to Shibin Al Qanater in Qalyubia over a distance of 19 kilometres, with 14 stations distributed along the route.
The extension will replace the existing 23 July–Shibin Al Qanater rail service with a dedicated metro corridor operating on a fully segregated alignment designed to eliminate surface-level crossings.
Stations are planned to serve high-density residential areas along the route, with the layout aimed at improving accessibility and reducing congestion.
The project is supported by a non-refundable grant from Spain through the FIEM fund. The National Authority for Tunnels has signed a consultancy agreement with TYPSA to carry out technical studies and provide advisory services for the design and implementation phases.
The scope of work includes route alignment studies, station placement and engineering services in line with the fully segregated operations model for Metro Line 1.
Plans also include the reconfiguration of El Marg Square to accommodate the extension. The engineering design will allow metro operations to run without surface intersections while maintaining traffic flow for pedestrians and vehicles beneath the elevated alignment.
The works are intended to manage congestion at El Marg Square while ensuring continuous metro operations along the extended section of the line.
