Cairo Metro Lines 3 & 4 Will Soon Lead to Cairo Airport
Plans include a 7.5 kilometre Line 3 tunnel to Cairo Airport and a 38.7 kilometre Line 4 phase to Capital Airport.
Plans are under study and execution to connect Metro Lines 3 and 4 with Cairo International Airport as part of a broader programme to integrate key facilities with Cairo’s mass transit network.
For Metro Line 3, studies are examining a 7.5-kilometre underground extension from Heliopolis station to the airport. The proposed route includes five stations: Heliopolis, El Hegaz, the Military Academy, Sheraton and Cairo International Airport.
The National Authority for Tunnels has signed a memorandum of understanding with a consortium led by Vinci, alongside Bouygues, Arab Contractors and Orascom Construction, to prepare preliminary designs and a technical offer for the section within 12 months. The agreement was announced on the sidelines of the InnoTrans exhibition in Berlin.
For Metro Line 4, phase one is currently under construction, while the planned fourth phase will extend 38.7 kilometres from an integrated transport hub north of the Suez Road to the Capital Airport station. This section will connect with the light rail transit line running from Adly Mansour to the 10th of Ramadan City and the New Capital.
A future branch under study would link Metro Line 4 directly to Cairo International Airport, aligned with a planned fifth phase of Metro Line 3.
Together, these projects are intended to create a connected transport network across eastern and western Cairo, improving movement between Cairo International Airport, Capital Airport and surrounding urban areas through integration with metro and light rail systems.
