‘Safah El Tagamoa’ Approved for Screening After Scene Cuts

Egypt’s Minister of Culture has approved the screening of ‘Safah El Tagamoa’ in cinemas after a series of scenes were removed.

The decision follows a review by the appeals committee within the censorship authority, after the film’s producer, Ahmed El Sobky, contested an earlier ruling that halted its release. The initial ban came after the censorship board flagged multiple scenes as violating licensing conditions, including depictions of violence, sexual content, and language deemed offensive toward women.

According to official statements, the approved version has undergone edits removing scenes involving torture, sexual assault, and what authorities described as “inappropriate portrayals” of Egyptian women. The film’s age rating has also been raised to 18+.

The controversy began ahead of Eid Al Fitr, when the film was pulled from cinemas due to alleged discrepancies between the submitted script and the final cut presented for screening.

With the edits now in place, ‘Safah El Tagamoa’, written and directed by Mohamed Salah El Azab, is set to return to cinemas.
