Egypt Introduces AI Drone System for Environmental & Urban Monitoring

The Ministry of Local Development and Environment has signed a cooperation contract with Drone Tech to establish a smart aerial monitoring system using drones supported by artificial intelligence and geospatial analysis.

Signed on April 15th, 2026, the agreement introduces an integrated system designed for real-time field monitoring and analysis, aimed at strengthening environmental, urban and local oversight across service sectors.

The contract was signed by Saeed Helmy Abdel Khalek, Head of the Sector of Planning and Integrated Local Development, and Mohamed Shehata Youssef, Chairman of Drone Tech, in the presence of officials from both sides.

According to the ministry, the system will support urban discipline by monitoring building violations, tracking waste management systems and seasonal pollution such as the “black cloud,” and detecting encroachments on natural reserves.

It will also contribute to afforestation efforts under the national initiative to plant 100 million trees, alongside broader environmental inspection, monitoring of public facilities and services, and crisis and emergency management through real-time data.

The platform will use spectral imaging techniques to analyse pollution sources with advanced accuracy, while drone-based surveys and geospatial analytics will feed into a central system to support decision-making at the governorate level.

Drone Tech said it will provide technical support for implementation, with the rollout planned in phases across multiple governorates based on operational priorities.
