Education Ministry's ‘Safety & Mercy’ Campaign Tackles School Violence
A national initiative aims to reduce violence by promoting positive behaviour, emotional intelligence and shared responsibility.
The Ministry of Education and Technical Education has launched a nationwide campaign titled ‘Safety and Mercy’ aimed at reducing school violence and reinforcing positive behaviour across educational institutions, following approval by Minister Mohamed Abdel Latif.
For parents, the campaign introduces the Family Partner of Discipline track, which includes a Makers of Awareness training programme. The programme focuses on non-violent communication, managing family anger, understanding adolescent aggression and promoting alternatives to physical or verbal punishment. Monthly interactive online workshops will be held to reach a broad audience.
Students will be engaged through the Ambassadors of Tolerance programme, which trains student union and committee members in mediation, conflict resolution and constructive intervention in bullying cases.
Each school will establish Ambassador teams tasked with monitoring behaviour and leading peer-to-peer awareness initiatives under specialist supervision.
The campaign also introduces a Constructive Behaviour Index, featuring a quarterly honour board that recognises acts of tolerance, initiative and conflict resolution, with awards presented during school ceremonies. Teachers and school leadership are covered through the Teacher as Safe Environment Maker track, offering specialised training on handling behavioural conflicts and applying emotional intelligence in classrooms.
Non-violence principles will be embedded into daily teaching through a dedicated unit in continuous professional development, supported by early-intervention tools and materials for specialists.
To reinforce messaging, schools will display posters and short videos promoting themes such as respect, constructive communication and the value of difference. Education administrations are required to establish simple digital platforms for follow-up and submit quarterly reports, supported by photographic and video documentation.
