Education Minister: Sudanese Schools Will Be Legalised in Egypt
A cooperation framework is being developed to regularise Sudanese schools in Egypt and restore schooling under regulations.
The Egyptian Ministry of Education said it is ready to regularise the status of Sudanese schools operating in Egypt after months of closures and amid repeated complaints from the Sudanese community in Cairo, following talks in Cairo between Egyptian Education Minister Mohamed Abdel Latif and Sudanese Education Minister Al Tihami Al Zein.
Under the proposed framework, support will extend to curriculum development, assessment systems, examinations and technical education, alongside broader cooperation aimed at improving education quality and exchanging expertise.
In June 2024, Sudanese schools operating in Egypt were ordered to close until they met regulatory requirements.
This included both embassy-affiliated institutions and privately run schools. One of the main schools, Al Sadaqa, resumed classes in December 2024 after meeting the required conditions.
To regularise operations, institutions are required to obtain approvals from Sudanese and Egyptian authorities, secure appropriate school facilities, submit ownership details and provide full documentation covering educational stages and expected student numbers.
A review process has been underway, with inspection teams visiting schools to assess compliance with the required standards and verify readiness to resume operations.
A joint committee is set to be formed between the two ministries to oversee implementation, establish operational mechanisms and monitor progress.
