Cairo & Alexandria Universities Will Open Branches in Asia
Plans are underway to expand Egyptian public universities overseas, with Southeast Asia identified as the next stage
Plans are underway to expand the presence of Egyptian public universities abroad as part of a phased strategy led by the Ministry of Higher Education, with Southeast Asia identified as a key focus in the next stage.
The initiative forms part of a broader direction to position higher education as an export sector, building on recent progress by Egyptian universities in international rankings, scientific research output and global competitions.
The first phase includes establishing overseas branches for Cairo University and Alexandria University in countries such as the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, Qatar and Malaysia.
These branches are expected to offer selected programmes in areas where Egyptian institutions have demonstrated strong performance. A second phase will expand into Central and Southeast Asia, followed by a third phase that will include additional countries to be identified.
The plan is intended to strengthen the global competitiveness of Egyptian universities while contributing to economic activity through international education offerings.
The model focuses on delivering relatively lower-cost education while maintaining academic standards, supported by existing experience in international partnerships and dual-degree programmes.
