Technology Valleys to Be Set Up at Leading Universities in Egypt
Each hub will pair a university with industry to turn applied research into marketable products and services.
Technology Valleys are set to be established at leading universities as part of a plan to connect academic research with industry and entrepreneurship.
Outlined by the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, the initiative will create integrated hubs within universities, each aligned with its area of academic strength and focused on applied research with practical outcomes.
The model is designed to strengthen collaboration between universities and industry, while supporting students in developing startups and commercially viable projects.
The programme also introduces a revised incentive framework for researchers and faculty members, expanding evaluation criteria beyond academic publications to include registered patents, industry-funded research and innovation-driven projects that translate into real-world applications.
A national fund is planned to support applied research, to be established in partnership with industry stakeholders.
Funding will be awarded competitively and will require collaboration with an industrial partner, aligning research proposals with market demand.
Companies participating in the initiative are expected to contribute to research funding, with provisions granting them priority access to resulting technologies and applications.
