Academic Medical City Opens in Al Qusais for 3,000 Students
Thumbay Group launches a new academic medical city in Al Qusais, bringing Gulf Medical University, a university hospital and research centres onto one site designed for 3,000 students.
A new academic medical city has opened in Al Qusais, Dubai, bringing medical education, research and patient care into a single integrated campus designed to accommodate 3,000 students and generate around 1,000 jobs.
Launched by Thumbay Group, the development is expected to host a floating population of approximately 6,000 people, including students, faculty, healthcare professionals and visitors. The site integrates academic, clinical and research functions in one location on the Dubai–Sharjah border, offering access to surrounding residential areas and transport links.
The campus includes a branch of Gulf Medical University, alongside research centres, simulation laboratories, surgical skills facilities, pharmacies and diagnostic services. The education zone features advanced simulation labs and artificial intelligence-supported learning systems, allowing students to train in clinical environments directly connected to hospital facilities.
The healthcare component is anchored by Thumbay University Hospital Dubai, which will introduce services in phases. Phase One includes renal dialysis, cardiology, orthopaedics and rehabilitation, with further expansion planned toward a multi-specialty academic hospital.
