Taif Rose Production Surpasses 500 Million Annually

Annual rose production in Taif has increased by more than 15%, reaching around 500 million roses grown each year across approximately 700 hectares and 1,300 properties.

The growth was reported by the Sustainable Agricultural Rural Development Program (Saudi Reef), which noted rising global demand for roses and related products.

The sector is supported by 36 perfume factories linked to rose cultivation, with a combined value of around SAR 52 million.

According to Saudi Reef, the rose industry provides significant economic returns for small-scale farmers in the governorate. The programme offers technical support, project financing and marketing assistance, and has contributed to the establishment of the Taif Rose Producers Association.

It also collaborates with the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations on agricultural development initiatives.

Taif’s climate supports the cultivation of more than 20 types of aromatic plants, many of which require limited water and have relatively low production costs.

Global demand for roses is growing at an estimated rate of 10–15% annually, driven by their use in perfumes, medicine and beverages.

The programme also identified challenges facing the sector, including limited scientific research on plant strain development and a shortage of active agricultural cooperatives to support smaller producers.
