Dubai Launches 'SME in a Box' to Streamline Business Setup
A new "SME in a Box" initiative bundles licensing, banking, payments, logistics, and more into a single setup journey.
Dubai’s Department of Economy and Tourism (DET) has launched SME in a Box, a new platform designed to simplify how entrepreneurs and small businesses establish and operate their companies.
The initiative brings together a range of essential business services under a single framework, allowing companies to access licensing support, banking services, payment solutions, telecommunications, and logistics providers through one platform rather than navigating multiple onboarding processes independently.
Developed in collaboration with 18 private-sector partners, SME in a Box functions as a centralised access point to business infrastructure typically sourced through separate providers. The model is intended to streamline company formation, reduce administrative complexity, and accelerate the time required for businesses to become operational.
According to DET, some services available through the platform, including payments, logistics, and telecommunications solutions, can be activated within 24 hours. Businesses may also gain access to discounted rates, waived fees, and partner incentives, with authorities estimating that participating companies could unlock more than AED 80,000 in cumulative value.
The platform is aimed at entrepreneurs, startups, and small and medium-sized enterprises looking to establish or expand operations in Dubai. While particularly relevant for newly formed businesses, the initiative also offers existing SMEs access to operational tools and service providers that can help reduce overheads and simplify vendor management.
Beyond the immediate cost and efficiency benefits, SME in a Box reflects a broader shift toward platform-based business formation, where core operational requirements are bundled into a single ecosystem. By consolidating access to financial services, payments infrastructure, logistics, connectivity, and regulatory support, the initiative seeks to reduce friction in the business setup process and improve speed-to-market for SMEs.
The launch forms part of Dubai’s wider efforts to strengthen its entrepreneurial ecosystem and make it easier for businesses to establish, operate, and scale within the emirate. Over time, SME in a Box is expected to be integrated into Dubai Founders HQ and the broader Invest in Dubai ecosystem, creating a more connected pathway for business growth.
