Riyadh Art Brings 75 Permanent Public Artworks Across the City
Riyadh Art’s permanent collection brings works by Saudi and international artists into metro stations, bridges and public spaces across the city.
A permanent collection of 75 public artworks has been installed across Riyadh’s metro stations, bridges, parks and public plazas as part of Riyadh Art, the citywide public art initiative launched in 2019.
The collection spans major transit hubs, corporate districts and pedestrian routes, bringing works by Saudi and international artists into everyday public spaces across the capital.
At Qasr Al-Hukm Metro Station, Saudi artist Zaman Jassim’s ‘When the Moon Was Full’ combines illuminated discs, sound, imagery and poetry. Completed in 2021, the work explores memory, spirituality and cultural identity.
In the King Abdullah Financial District, Alexander Calder’s 1969 sculpture ‘Janey Waney’ is displayed outdoors, while Subodh Gupta’s ‘The Family Tree’ appears in the district’s open plazas.
The Diplomatic Quarter is home to Jeff Koons’ ‘Diamond (Red)’, positioned outside the Cultural Palace. The reflective gemstone sculpture forms part of the wider collection placed across high-visibility civic and pedestrian areas.
Riyadh Art has also extended into infrastructure used by commuters every day. Angelo Bonello’s ‘Running Beyond’, installed across the overpass at King Abdulaziz Road and Hisham bin Abdulmalik Road, uses illuminated human figures in sequence to create the impression of a runner moving across the bridge.
