Today, the hallowed halls of the Grand Egyptian Museum (GEM) reverberate with a resplendent concert, commemorating the centenary of Umm Kulthoum's resounding voice and enduring influence.
Guided by the masterful baton of maestro Mohamed El Mogy, a constellation of exceptional artists, including the esteemed Reham Abdelhakim and the enchanting Marwa Nagy, takes centre stage, transporting the audience on a melodic journey through Umm Kulthoum's iconic repertoire, complemented by a pop-up exhibition featuring rare images captured of Kawkab Al Sharq by Ibrahim.
“Farouk Ibrahim used to host pop-up exhibits for Umm Kulthoum at her concerts, so this is how my family and I chose to honor that tradition,’ Karim Farouk Ibrahim, photojournalist and archive trustee, tells CairoScene. Curated by Ramzi Makram Ebeid, the exhibition features a never-before-seen side of the songstress, once again bringing Farouk Ibrahim’s lens and vision to the spotlight.
This marks the third iteration of exhibitions showcasing Ibrahim’s extensive collection, including Cairo Photo Week’s ‘The Legend: Farouk Ibrahim’ and recently Alex Photo Week’s ‘Farouk Ibrahim: The Legend’s Lightbox’. The exhibition is running till March 8th.
