Egyptian Leather Brand The Timeless Thinks in Centuries, Not Seasons
Rooted in fashion’s original material and an Egyptian philosophy of permanence, The Timeless is building pieces fit for eternity.
Before fashion, there was leather. It is the very first thing we, as humans, ever chose to wear. Evidence of this original choice predates civilisation itself, where 120,000-year-old leather tools were found in a cave along the coast of North Africa.
Time itself seems to move around the material. It has borne witness to the rise of humanity as we know it today, outlived empires and entire civilisations, protecting those who wear it from wind, rain, and the slow erosion of time. Leather softens with age, creases with wear, loyally taking the shape of its bearer.
There is a name for things like this, ones that exist beyond the reach of trend or time. That name, fittingly, belongs to an Egyptian leather brand: The Timeless.
For its founders, Nada Mohamed and Fathia Salama, the brand is the result of something rarer than ambition: patience. “For years, the idea of creating a brand remained only a conversation between us,” co-founder Nada Mohamed tells SceneStyled. “We never wanted to build something simply to follow trends. What united us most was the feeling that modern fashion had become repetitive; everything started looking the same. We missed individuality, craftsmanship, and emotional connection.”
Their material of choice came out of a response to these questions. “Leather, to us, is far more than material. It carries memory, emotion, protection, history, and human connection,” says Nada. “There is something deeply human about leather the way it ages, softens, changes, and becomes more beautiful over time.” It is a material that has stood the test of time by adapting with it rather than working against it - absorbing its imperfections, but also its journeys, experiences, and memories.
This way of perceiving leather not only as a material but as a vessel for human life and history speaks to a core aspect of The Timeless. “Every material carries its own cultural story, texture, philosophy, and emotional identity,” says Nada. It just so happens that leather’s story has been 120,000 years in the making. “For us, this is not simply a heritage, it is a continuity.”
The leather at The Timeless is sourced from a variety of countries, each with its own rich legacy of craftsmanship and design. To Nada and Fathia, this means that each piece tells its own unique story of culture and material. “In many ways, each piece becomes a meeting point between cultures,” says Fathia.
The artisans who bring each piece to life share that range, each bringing a different set of skills and methods from a range of backgrounds and nationalities. “This diversity is what gives The Timeless its soul - it was never built by a single perspective, it was shaped by many hands, many stories, and many cultural influences united through one shared language: timeless quality and design,” Fathia explains. It is a story that has been told for millennia, and one that Nada and Fathia seek to honour in the present and carry forward into the future.
The Timeless plays with a range of silhouettes and designs - a fusion of ancient material and contemporary shapes. Always handmade, the brand also works to push against a new world of fast fashion and even faster consumption. “When someone invests in a piece designed to last for decades, they are choosing a different relationship with fashion. We want our pieces to live alongside their owners, collecting memories, travelling through life, evolving beautifully with time,” says Nada.
As a result, no two pieces are the same - each carrying the unique imperfection of the hand that crafted them and the owner that will shape them throughout their time together. It is a perspective largely shaped by the country that Nada and Fathia call home. “Coming from Egypt deeply influences the way we think about permanence,” says Nada. “Historically, Egyptians did not create only for the present moment; they created with eternity in mind. We believe this philosophy still exists culturally, even subconsciously.”
What better material to represent eternity, therefore, than one that created fashion as we know it today? “We are not interested in designing for a single season. We want to create pieces that naturally become part of a person’s life and wardrobe over time, designs that age beautifully, carry memories, and still feel elegant years later,” Nada says.
In this sense, The Timeless is just as much inspired by the future as it is by the past. To founders Nada and Fathia, what makes an item truly timeless is its ability not to be tied to a certain era or trend. In terms of the brand itself, the future is measured by trust and permanence, explains Fathia. “We hope The Timeless becomes a globally recognised house of craftsmanship known for creating pieces that remain relevant long after trends disappear.”
While this is rare for a clothing brand today, in many ways, it is the oldest proposition there is. For much of our existence, clothing was something to be discarded only when it was physically outgrown. With the right materials, however, it can outlive our own existence.
“To us, real luxury is not about constantly replacing things,” Nada explains. “It is about owning pieces you continue choosing, loving, and returning to for years."
