Enrollment Opens for Najdi Door-Making Apprenticeship in Qassim

Enrollment has opened for a new apprenticeship programme in traditional Najdi door construction, offering hands-on training in one of the Kingdom's historic crafts.

Delivered by the Royal Institute of Traditional Arts, the programme will take place in person at the institute's campus in Unaizah, Al-Qassim Region, with classes scheduled during morning hours.
The apprenticeship spans more than 18 months and is set to begin on August 23rd, 2026. Participants who complete the programme will receive a Certificate of Completion.

According to the institute, trainees will learn traditional woodworking and carving techniques through direct instruction from experienced artisans, producing doors inspired by the architectural heritage of Najd.

Coursework includes an introduction to Najdi doors, carpentry fundamentals, traditional door-making techniques and decorative methods associated with the craft.

The programme also covers restoration basics, modern woodworking techniques and materials, as well as leadership, marketing and project management skills aimed at supporting craft-based businesses.

The institute states that graduates may pursue roles including traditional door artisan, handicraft product designer, workshop supervisor, craft trainer, traditional crafts content developer, documentation specialist, cultural events supervisor or heritage handicraft events coordinator.
The apprenticeship is offered tuition-free to Saudi nationals. Applicants must be at least 18 years old, meet health requirements and commit to the programme for its full duration.

Admission includes an entrance examination, skills assessment, practical evaluation and personal interview. Employed applicants must also provide approval from their employer confirming that participation will not conflict with working hours.
