UAE Universities Resume In-Person Classes After Disruptions

Universities across the UAE have begun resuming in-person classes from April 20th following weeks of remote learning linked to regional disruptions, with institutions reopening on staggered timelines based on readiness and regulatory approvals.
Ajman University was among the first to reopen its campus, marking the return with an on-site initiative where students received commemorative pins and shared messages reflecting on the resumption of campus life.
Amity University Dubai confirmed a full return to in-person teaching after receiving safety readiness approvals from the Ministry of Education and the Knowledge and Human Development Authority. The university said preparations included staff and student training across in-person and digital formats, mock drills covering fire safety and external emergency scenarios, and the designation of safe zones across campus.
Other institutions are following varied timelines. The University of Dubai resumed on-campus operations on April 20th in line with Ministry directives, with academic activities proceeding as scheduled. The American University in the Emirates is set to reopen for in-person learning on May 2nd, while the American University in Dubai will continue its Spring semester online. De Montfort University Dubai said it will resume scheduled activities soon with safety protocols in place.
Gulf Medical University has continued in-person teaching throughout the period, citing the practical requirements of healthcare education. The institution reported reinforced campus security measures, psychological support services for students and staff, safety orientations and the suspension of outdoor activities as a precaution, alongside maintaining scheduled in-campus assessments with flexibility for students where required.
