Road Traffic Deaths in Dubai Fall 94% Since 2007

Road traffic fatalities in Dubai have fallen by 94% since 2007, reaching 1.4 deaths per 100,000 residents by the end of 2025, according to the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA).

The authority said the reduction supports its Vision Zero objective and places Dubai among the leading cities globally for road safety. The results form part of a long-term strategy focused on reducing traffic collisions, serious injuries and fatalities.

According to the RTA, the strategy is built around four pillars: enforcement, road and vehicle engineering, public awareness, and systems and management. Together, these measures aim to improve road safety through infrastructure upgrades, stronger regulation and better traffic operations.

The authority also highlighted its approach to managing traffic diversions during roadworks and maintenance. Alternative routes are planned using traffic studies and coordinated across relevant departments, with diversions monitored and adjusted where necessary to minimise disruption. Whenever possible, works are scheduled during off-peak hours, while projects requiring daytime closures undergo additional assessments to ensure surrounding roads can accommodate traffic volumes.

During the first four months of 2026, the RTA carried out preventive and corrective maintenance across roads, asphalt surfaces and safety infrastructure. Ongoing initiatives include improving high-risk locations, installing raised pedestrian crossings, upgrading infrastructure for micromobility users, inspecting truck rest areas and running awareness campaigns for delivery riders and pedestrians.
