Saudi Arabia's National Centre for Environmental Compliance (NCEC) has issued more than SAR 16 million in fines to 557 violators of the Kingdom's dust control and mitigation regulations as part of an ongoing campaign targeting construction sites across Riyadh.
According to the NCEC's Riyadh branch director, Eng. Fawaz Al-Mujathil, the campaign was launched in February in partnership with the Royal Commission for Riyadh City and Riyadh Municipality. Since then, inspection teams have carried out more than 3,000 field inspections across construction zones in the capital.
Violations were identified through air quality monitoring systems, public complaints and around-the-clock site inspections. Common offences included the absence of on-site air quality monitors, failure to use dust suppression measures, uncovered transport trucks and non-compliance with approved transportation procedures.
The NCEC said sites found in violation have begun implementing corrective measures. Inspection campaigns will continue, with developers and contractors urged to comply with dust mitigation requirements to help protect public health and improve air quality in Riyadh.
