Octagon Military Headquarters Opens in New Capital

The Octagon, Egypt’s new State Strategic Command Headquarters, was inaugurated in the New Capital during a ceremony attended by President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi and senior military leaders.

The complex is designed to serve as the central command hub for the Egyptian Armed Forces and national crisis management, bringing together strategic coordination, military operations and secure communications within one headquarters.

Covering approximately 92 square kilometres, the site is organised into 13 integrated strategic and logistical zones. At its centre are eight interconnected octagonal buildings representing the different branches and sovereign departments of the Armed Forces, alongside two administrative buildings dedicated to political leadership.

According to the presidency, the headquarters has been equipped with advanced digital technologies and secure satellite communications to support centralised military command, operational planning and coordination between defence institutions and civilian government bodies.

President El-Sisi inaugurated the headquarters during an official ceremony attended by Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces and Minister of Defence and Military Production Lieutenant General Ashraf Salem Zaher, and Chief of Staff Lieutenant General Ahmed Khalifa.

The ceremony included a military inspection, a 21-gun salute, an aerial escort by Apache helicopters, the raising of the Armed Forces flag, performances honouring members of the military who lost their lives in service, a documentary screening, and drone and aerobatic displays.
