Egypt Will Host Africa University Games 2026 From August 9th to 16th
More than 45 universities from 17 countries will compete across 18 sports this August.
The 12th edition of the African University Games Championship will take place in Egypt from August 9th to 16th, 2026, bringing together more than 45 universities from 17 African countries for competitions across 18 sports.
Events will be staged across venues in Cairo and the New Capital, with football included as a compulsory sport within the championship programme.
Details of the tournament were presented during a press conference attended by Abdelaziz Konsowa and Ashraf Sobhy, alongside broadcaster Ahmed Shobier. Hosting responsibilities will be shared between Cairo University, Ain Shams University, Egyptian E-Learning University, The American University in Cairo, and El Nady Club.
Organisers outlined plans to distribute competitions across university campuses and sports facilities throughout the capital region during the week-long tournament. A cooperation protocol was also signed between the University Sports Federation and the African University Sports Federation alongside supporting companies involved in organising the championship.
