Egypt Tops Africa in 2025 Government AI Readiness Index
Egypt ranked first in Africa and 51st globally in the 2025 Government AI Readiness Index.
Egypt ranked first in Africa and 51st globally in the 2025 Government AI Readiness Index, climbing 14 places from last year and leading the continent among 195 countries assessed by Oxford Insights.
According to the Cabinet's Information and Decision Support Centre, Egypt scored 57.5 points in this year's index, up from 55.6 in 2024, while rising a total of 60 places over the past six years. The country also ranked third in the Arab world, improving from seventh place regionally in the previous edition.
Egypt achieved a perfect score of 100 in the policy capacity pillar alongside the United Kingdom, Serbia and Australia, while also ranking first in the Arab world in the resilience pillar, which measures how countries manage the social, economic and environmental challenges associated with AI adoption.
Minister of Communications and Information Technology Amr Talaat attributed the progress to the second edition of Egypt's National AI Strategy, launched in early 2025. The strategy focuses on responsible AI governance, expanding AI applications, improving data quality, strengthening digital infrastructure, supporting startups and innovation, and developing AI skills.
Talaat also highlighted projects including an AI system for early breast cancer detection and a speech-to-text platform used in remote litigation, alongside Egypt's 100-point score in the International Telecommunication Union's Global Cybersecurity Index.
